Feasibility analysis of the conversion of brushed to brushless direct current motor

<span lang="EN-US">This paper analyzes the feasibility of converting brushed direct current (BDC) to brushless (BLDC) motor by substituting wound rotor with a permanent magnet. The aim is overcome low quality rewinding rotors. conversion was performed redesigning motor, referring old stator dimensions and specifications. Some suitable speed control systems were also examined. Technical analysis executed simulating characteristics, covering torque-speed curve, cogging, ripple torques. Afterward, an economic done determine cost making one unit then compare it price new BDC equivalent power. results show that produces 3.6 kW, 18.86 V, 176.71 A, 28.53 Nm at 2,460 rpm 2 phases configuration. maximum cogging torque 2.9 Nm. plus higher than motor. These technically feasible convert into BLDC but not economically or vice versa.</span>
